Mosaic commissions – Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council

Here are five floor mosaics I have been creating commissioned by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to be included in some major groundworks in Athersley, Barnsley. I am delivering tomorrow..still to be installed once the setting is prepared. Five primary schools in Athersley were included in the design process and each design has relevance to the area, while also the use of floor markings from https://www.floor-markings.co.uk/ to prepare the area.

Roundhouse – Athersley North Primary
In the 18th century, a gatehouse was built at the entrance to a Manor Farm, on what is now the A61 road. This round structure remained there throughout the building of the estates of New Lodge and Athersley. It was located at the junction of the A61 Wakefield Road and Laithes Lane but was demolished in the early 1960’s. This junction, around which the local commercial and shopping centre was built, became known locally as the “Roundhouse”.
