NHS Hull hospital mosaics near completion

The garden mosaics are nearing completion for the NHS Humber Centre – a male forensic medium secure hospital. The clients and staff have been working on two projects facilitated by myself. The first floor mosaic is a large labrynth design (made up of many paths to the centre) symbolising each individual’s personal journey to and from the Humber Centre.

The second project is made up of four mosaic geometric panels (with clients completing their own section reflecting their identity) which will span out from a sundial (carved by co-artist Saffron Waghorn) with additional handmade clay tiles impregnated with plantlife (created with clients by co-artist Lee Steele) around the periphery. Photos to follow soon!

  1. I think the symbols of the labyrinth and the compass are really relevant to the journey of recovery from mental illness. Great that you were able to work with patients in a way that invites them to, literally, start putting some of the pieces in place.
